Historical Perspective presented by
Kristin DeForest, M.A., L.P.C. Director of Mathom House
In 1986, Mathom House began as a twelve-bed program
in a wing of the Bucks County Youth Center. Headed by Dr. Frank Schmauk and Dr. Don Tangora the program was created in an attempt to fill the need for special programming to address cases
of adolescent sexual offending within Bucks County. In 1996, when the Bucks County Youth Center moved into their new location, Mathom House expanded to take over the entire building. With over
20 years experience treating the youth of Bucks County and surrounding areas, Mathom House is proud of its history and mindful of the responsibility bestowed upon us to effectively treat
the children within our care while simultaneously ensuring community safety.
Over the years, we have strived to remain on the cutting edge of treatment for adolescent sexual offenders and their families. We have a strong record of staff retention as seen through the collective
years of service at Mathom House by the staff, therapists, and administration. We remain committed to our mission, vision, and values and hope to continue to serve our community to the best of
our ability by remaining partners with referring agencies, the Juvenile Court, local governments, and the clients and families whom we treat.
