Family reunification is a victim-centered approach in which the family therapist facilitates communication and relationship building with family
members who have been separated from the resident as a result of the offenses he committed. The reunification process is thoughtful of family dynamics; it is deliberate in delivery and is tailored
to the needs and concerns of the family members involved. Reunification only begins when the victim and family members are ready to engage in the process. The goal of reunification is to reunite
family members in a manner that supports safety and promotes healthy relationships. |
Before family reunification can begin, appropriate safety planning must be employed by the clinical team and participating
family members. Safety planning is a continuous process that occurs throughout reunification and community reintegration. Safety rules and regulations are established by the clinical team
with the agreement and cooperation of all family members and referring agents. |
