Home Services Treatment Highlights Referral & Admissions About Us

Mathom House Treatment Program
Treatment consists of an integrated two pronged approach to address what appears to be the dual aspect of criminal sexual behavior. First, the aspect of vulnerability to such behavior because of aberrant personality development, especially as related to self esteem, anger, and power issues; secondly, the aspect of strength and persistence of such behavior due to the repeatedly reinforced connection between inappropriate stimulus and pleasurable arousal. The program has two licenses, residential and secure. Clients begin in the secure wing and move to the residential wing once they have demonstrated an appropriate level of trust and have made progress towards treatment goals, especially breaking through denial. The expected time required to complete this program is eighteen to twenty four months.

Mirkwood Intensive Treatment Program

Group topics include introduction to treatment, sexual assault chain building, empathy training (including one's own victimization), examination of thinking errors, social skills training, values clarification, and relapse prevention. Mirkwood clients can include youths living in Mathom House as well as those suited to remaining at home. The expected time required to complete this program is twelve to fourteen months.

Ravenhill Outpatient Treatment
In addition to Mirkwood outpatient groups, Mathom House provides outpatient services through the Ravenhill Psychological program for adolescents and adults who have engaged in a variety of inappropriate sexual behaviors. Outpatient treatment consists of individual and group therapy combined with family sessions as needed. The treatment is directed primarily toward the inappropriate sexual behavior through exploration of precursors which contributed to the offenses, examination of the chain of thoughts, feeling, and behaviors which activated the offenses, and the development of a relapse prevention plan. Sessions are conducted twice a week, one individual session and one group session. The expected treatment time is six to twelve months.

Mathom House Aftercare
Our aftercare/relapse prevention group is facilitated by Mathom House Therapists on a weekly basis. It is designed for residents who have completed the majority of their treatment and continue to require support as they return to the families and the community.

It is intended to be a safety net for discharged residents who remain on probation for up to one year. This structured group environment offers an outlet for members to discuss successes and complications while adapting back into home-life. Individual treatment is also typically provided.

Mathom House Parent Group
Designed to offer support and education. Parents are led to understand the issues of sex offenders and encouraged to align with the treatment team while adjusting to the turn of events in their lives. Educational topics include limit setting, adolescent sexuality & behavior, anger management, positive reinforcement, family/spousal relationships. Throughout the year the group participates in structured recreational or social activities with Mathom House residents and counselors in order to engage in positive family interactions.

Educational Program
The Mathom House School is designed to provide an enriching and supportive learning environment. Students with strong academic skills are challenged preparing them for graduation and post graduation studies. Students with the specials needs receive individualized programming.
