Greetings from Jonathan A. Roberds, Psy.D.
Clinical Director

As Clinical Director, I am honored to continue as part of an enduring legacy at Mathom House of caring for individuals and the communities that are affected by their decisions. Because of the high price of sexual offense recidivism, the importance of treating juvenile sex offenders within a residential treatment context is clear. Studies have further demonstrated the relevance of receiving treatment beyond legal sanction, and the relevance of using appropriate treatment modalities with this population to the lowering recidivism – and ultimately facilitating successful community reintegration.

I am also pleased to have the opportunity of working with a staff of therapists who collectively have over 60 years of sex offense-specific work experience, and with an administration who truly understands the importance of quality therapeutic intervention with this population, with their contribution continuing in the area of direct service delivery to individual and group clients.
A commitment on all levels to gaining a better understanding of the treatment needs of the juvenile sex offender and implementation of effective therapy is evidenced through our frequent trainings and a combination of peer, transdisciplinary, and direct clinical supervision. Our commitment in this area is highlighted by the recognition of our clinical model as informing and shaping the model of managed care for other juvenile sex offender treatment facilities statewide.

As part of our commitment to refining and proving our efficacy, we partake in the systematized evaluation of our clinical impact upon clients at Mathom House by pretesting and post-testing dependant variables that have been determined to relate to recidivism and/or successful community reintegration. This endeavor began as an internally generated process toward the incessant augmentation of our therapies, and we feel that respecting existing empirical support and the generation of new evidence relevant to this unique population is of paramount importance.
